Top 5 Values Every Good Candidate Must Have

What are those values that employers look out for in an excellent candidate?

August 29, 2018

Employers seek to hire the best candidate who is not only technically suitable but also possesses certain values that align with the company’s culture. Most times employers use these qualities as a benchmark for distinguishing between an average and best candidate.

As a candidate, what are the core values that you currently possess that will make you appeal to employers? Have you identified those values which you currently do not have but need to develop?

Let’s take a look at some values that employers look out for in candidates:

Strong Work Ethic

Employers seek to have candidates who set high goals for themselves, who work hard in order to achieve those goals. Having a strong work ethic is not just about putting in hard work when things are smooth and results are coming easily. It involves exceeding the set goals and also working to provide solutions to problems during execution of tasks. Employers always value candidates who possess the willingness to work beyond expectation.

Positive Attitude Towards Work

A candidate with a positive attitude towards work is one that will appeal most to employers. An upbeat attitude separates an excellent candidate from a forlorn candidate. A negative attitude towards work affects your output and reduces  overall productivity. Hence, employers prefer candidates who even after making mistakes, can still move forward in a positive way. Candidates with positive approach to work are resilient when faced with difficulty.

Self-Motivation

To appeal more to employers, you must be a candidate who can take initiative and get the work done with little or no supervision. To make yourself attractive to employers, you must develop sheer passion and drive for work such that you can make sound decisions on behalf of the company. As a self-motivated candidate, its best to remain confident in your ability to get the work done promptly.

Team Player

Employers value candidates who are good team players and can collaborate with other team members to achieve company goals and objectives. A company succeeds based on the collaborative effort of its employees. Every member of the team is relevant to the progress of the organization. Therefore, hiring managers are drawn to candidates who can fit in well with others. If you are a lone player, I will recommend you develop the habit of working/playing well with others.

Adaptability

An employable candidate is one who embraces change and is flexible enough to adjust to new developments that affects his or her job. As an applicant you must be able to demonstrate flexibility to the employer and show them that you can switch tasks when required and adapt to new work place conditions.

To make yourself more appealing to the employer and also increase your chances of getting that job, ensure you develop these values listed above.
