Key Responsibilities

Job Title: Questionnaire & Translation Specialist

Job Type: Permanent

Location: Lagos & Ibadan (with occasional remote work requirements).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, refine, and meticulously review questionnaire questions for clarity, neutrality, and suitability for spoken administration.
  • Translate and perform rigorous back-translations of questionnaires between English and Yoruba, ensuring linguistic fidelity and conceptual equivalence.
  • Standardize the spoken rendering of politically sensitive or conceptually complex terms to ensure consistent understanding across diverse respondent groups.
  • Actively support pilot testing phases, analyzing and addressing comprehension problems, respondent fatigue, or ambiguities identified.
  • Maintain and manage a controlled question bank, encompassing core modules, rotating elements, and event-specific questionnaires.
  • Collaborate with research teams to ensure the cultural appropriateness and local relevance of all survey instruments.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, Translation Studies, Communication Arts, Social Research, or a related field.
  • A strong background in survey design, translation, linguistics, communication research, or social research methodologies.
  • Exceptional command of both English and Yoruba languages, with a keen understanding of nuances and cultural contexts.
  • Proven experience in translating or adapting questionnaires, particularly for oral administration.
  • Familiarity with best practices in questionnaire development and validation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency in relevant software for document creation and management.
